Arguments for and against TOOTH JEWELLERY

Esthetic dentistry boasts that tooth „crystals have a special coating on the back and their face reflects the light and makes it sparkle like a diamond”.

YOU ARE A DENTIST and have to advise a teenage girl who is still hesitant whether to have tooth jewellery or not. Bring one argument (!!) either for or against tooth jewellery. Start your comment: I think YOU should........... (then bring the argument and support it adequately)

  1. "I think you should try it out and if you do not like it I can easily remove it. It would not damage your enamel I will just give a polish to that surface. "

  2. I think you should try it if you think it fits your personality. As far as your dental tissue is concerned,I will make sure to use a non-invasive method, using a bonding substance wich is not going to produce any damage,so if you will want to remove at some point,we can make that happen without any marks.

    1. Hi Laura, I liked the way you strongly suggested the idea of teeth jewellery and the condition.

Now I'd like to challenge you to find out one spelling and one grammar mistake in your comment.

      Delete
    2. I tried to find the mistakes I made and my spelling mistake is "wich" and the correct form would be "which" ,but I'm not quite sure of my grammar mistake. I think is here "I will make sure to use" and I will rephrase because I also notice that I missed "it" beside "remove", by saying: "I will make sure the procedure is not invasive,by using a bonding substance which is not going to produce any damage,so if you will want to remove it at some point,it won't leave any marks"

    3. Yes, Laura, you are right about the spelling mistake, I am sure it was a "typo", we often do them - the idea is to be train ourselves to read before hitting the "send" button so as to offer a respectable image of ourselves to the public, which is so important in case of professionals, isn't it.

I'm not telling you yet about the grammar mistake but I suggest you review the "if clauses" we practised during our last class.
      Looking forward to your findings.

  3. I think you should try it if you think it suits you. Your enamel will be intact and I can assure you that the procedure is pain-free because it consists of gluing the jewelry with a special adhesive which is also used when applying the brackets of fixed braces. This little accessory can last up to five years, but if you get tired of it I can remove it whenever you want without leaving any marks.

    1. Hei Antonia, would you like to have a tooth jewellery?

    2. Hei Cristina! No, I wouldn't like to apply jewellery on my teeth because I don't think they would look good on me and I am sure they won't suit my face and my personality. In my opinion, there are other (better) ways to make yourself appear prettier. Would you like to have this accessory on your front teeth?

  4. ‘ I think you should take some aspects into consideration, before any decision. Firstly, you have told me that you want to have your teeth whiten before having a tooth jewellery . Well, I think it is quite risky because your teeth are not so strong and healthy as they seem. A procedure like this could compromise the entire structure of the enamel and dentine and even the cement will be affected. Eventually, the soft tissues, like the pulp and the gum, will suffer as well.

On the other hand, the jewellery itself can damage your teeth. In order to put the jewellery, the surface of the teeth must be demineralized with acid which will doubtless compromise the structure of the enamel. This, in the presence of dental plaque, make the tooth even more vulnerable to decay.’

    1. Hi, Cristina, do you think rational arguments function with young people whose main target is to look different, cool, attractive by all means?

      Delete
    2. They do not function with all people, for sure. But I think that almost all of them have decided to have tooth jellewery after seeing someone else having one. Due to this, they are not familiarized with the implication of this procedure so, I hope at least few of them will reconsider the decision.

    3. Well, rational arguments do not function with all people, that’s a certainty. But I think that the majority of this patients have had this decision after having seen somebody else with a tooth jewellery. Due to this fact, they are not familiarized with this procedure and they don’t know the long-term consequences. Therefore, I hope that at least few of them will reconsider the decision after being told the entire "story". :)

  5. I think that you should think twice if this is what you really want and really defines you or if it is just a fad. In the in the beginning I recommend you to solve your dental problems and at your next visit, if you decide I will enhance your smile with a tooth jewellery which can be polished of leaving no trace if you by any chance would want it removed.

  6. I think you should try it if you think it suits you.Tooth jewellery is the latest thing to add a sparkle to your dazzling whites, you can now have a sparkling crystal glass design or something in gold or a twinkle of ruby or maybe an aquamarine blue diamond shining on your tooth. These tiny tooth accessories are great fun and they can add a zing to your teeth!
The tooth jewellery used and the procedure for applying it are absolutely safe! The application is a very simple 15 minute procedure. Just like an orthodontic bracket, the design is bonded on to your tooth structure. You can have it removed at any time, or simply replace it with another one. Since there is no drilling involved, it is directly bonded to the tooth surface, it does not harm your teeth and is absolutely pain free! :) Take your time, you don't have to decide right now!

  7. I suggest you not to do it because I belive that the more natural a thing looks, the more beautiful it is. Why to put a diamond were it shouldn't be one ? If you want one you could buy a ring or a neckless. Why to put it on your tooth ? If you want a bright smile I could do a professional brushing and a whitening treatment so you will have the prettiest smile . What do you say ?

  8. I think you should try this tooth jewellery without thinking too much, because look I also have one for several years and I did not noticed any bad thing.

  9. I think you should try it if you have a perfect oral hygiene, and suits your personality as well. As I see it, in these days it is really hard to explain to a teenage girl or boy, not to wear jewellery or stuff like that. I saw a lot of young person, who decided to got a tooth jewellery which made they personality much more attractive and cooler. But many of them did not know or see the fact that, it really do not fit they appearance. I do not say that, I never recommend it, but there are some negative points. The good thing is, after a year or two I can remove it without any remarcable damage. The choice is yours, I sad my point of view.

  14. I think you should think about whether it’s worthed or not. First of all we should solve all your dental problems. The next step is to make sure that it will look good on you. On the other hand it has no harmful effects on the tooth surface so if you still want it we can choose a fashionable jewellery for you. In my personal opinion sometimes the less is more, a twinkle white smile is the best.

  15. I think you should try it and see how you feel about it. There is no danger to harm your teeth.

  18. I think you should try it if you like this kind of jewellery. On a beautiful, ordered and white denture it looks good. The advantage is: this is a non-invasive procedure, if you doesn’t like it, can be removed easily, not like a tattoo. However, if you have problems with your frontal teeth, I don’t recommend the jewellery, because it can attract attention to your problems.

  21. I think you should think twice before making any decisions, because tooth jewellery has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that the jewellery doesn't cause pain,is non-invasive and reversible.Unfortunately, the disadvantages also exist and cause dental plaque and cavities.

    1. I agree with Andrea and I want to point out what the disadvantages are : dental plaque and cavities.

  22. I believe that you should think twice before you make such a step. Let’s start by treating the small health problems of your teeth and than you will realize that it isn’t a good idea to make such decisions. On the other hand, a jewelry on your teeth requires a strict hygiene, because it accumulates bacteria.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Personally I think you should make your own decision because I (In an ideal world where no dentist would try to influence the decisions of his patients and steer them towards more profitable procedures) think you should know the pros and cons. Firstly it is true, the procedure is entirely painless and with the right adhesive your enamel will not suffer any structural or color damage , but adding something to the surface of your tooth, especially something of that size will naturally cause plaque build-up and in time it may even evolve into a full-blown cavity so you will have to redouble your efforts when cleaning your teeth. Not to worry however , the procedure is entirely reversible.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think you should glue something to your tooth , no matter how pretty it looks , in time it will most certainly cause complication such as plaque and tooth erosion, despite it being merely adhered to the surface of your tooth.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think you should try it and see what you feel about that. It would not damage your enamel.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think you should try it, I am sure that your tooth would not have any problem. Doctors use a specific bonding and if you are not pleased with it, it can be removed without complications or damage of tooth.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think you should make your own decision, but first we should take care about all problems in your oral cavity , and after that i will show you some tooth jewelry that is temporary, and you can take it of by yourself at home.Tooth jewellery can cause plaque and can develop into a cavity.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think you should try it if you like this kind of jewellery. It is not an invasive method, but you should pay attention to cleaning that area, because tooth jewellery can cause some complication, like plaque or calculus. On the other hand, if you change your mind it can be removed easily.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think you should give it a second or even a third thought before you decide to apply tooth jewellery. When thinking of this decision, do not forget that "less is more". Why complicate your life with future dental complications, as well as damaging you beautiful and healthy teeth? Better buy a pair of pearl earrings :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think you should consider the fact that there are other possibilities to express yourself than to compromise the integral structure of your teeth. On one hand one would say it looks nice as you smile but (call me old fashioned) I would strongly recommend going against these procedures.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think you should think of other ways to express yourself than having a tooth jewellery. As good as might look to you for a while, it will do you more harm on long-term. Tooth jewellery has many negative consequences including interfering with natural teeth, removing enamel and also it is a potential food trap, inviting decay, cavities and gum problems.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If your teeth are very nice but you desire to improve your beauty even more,if you desire to endow your smile with a jewel and if your teeth are all healthy, especially which the jewel should be attached, you can be a suitable candidate for this treatment.

  33. I think you should be aware of the risks involved, because there are risks, but also I want you to trust the dentistry nowadays because it has evolved a lot and what was considered dangerous in the past today can be considered as something easy and secure. About this particular situation,it is not such a 'big deal' so the speak,if you want to do this then you just need to be sure that this is what you want,in terms of dentistry, this is very achievable and involves minimal risk.

  38. I think you should try it because it does not have harmful effects against your tooth. If you don't like it we can remove it, but I'm sure you will like it. You can choose from a wide range of variety of tooth jewellery from the silver to the diamond.

  42. So,beautiful lady,I think you should avoid this type o jewellery due to the fact that your are beautiful enough even if you don't have this accessory on you teeth. Let me tell you why you shouldn't wear this type o jewellery: this jewelry can bring serious problems for your teetH due to the risk of caries. These caries appear due to lots of microorganisms that can stay on your jewelry. So,with a teeth whitening and a good oral hygiene you teeth will be more healthy and more beautiful, you don't need this type of jewelry.

  45. I think you should look into this topic, because having tooth jewellery may cause several problems in connection with dental sanitation, such as caries. The jewel itself may contribute in preventing some particular areas to be cleaned properly.
